Christopher Lai International Business ConsultantDr. Lai provides his clients with a rich international and technical background to resolve their issues of quality and operation management, inventory control, purchasing and product packaging. Having managed companies both in the US and China, he understands his clients’ problems from the inside out. He understands the complexities of leaders who are managing people in today’s international and global environment. He recognizes the difficulties of production in emerging markets. Born and raised in Taiwan, and educated in the United States, he is not only fluent in both Mandarin and English, but understands the cultures of both Asia and America.

As a professor/practitioner for more than 25 years Dr. Lai has provided his expertise on research teams, resolving problems of packaging in the US food industry as well as product development. Additionally he has done research for International Paper Company and established the Center for Food & Pharmaceutical Packaging Research at Michigan State University. He has managed his own companies in both the US and China and is a sought after professor in universities such as UC Berkley, Davenport University, Upper Iowa University, Baker College and Wuxi Institute of Light Industry, China.

Recently, he has taken a leadership role in a non-profit organization that was in the midst of changing senior leadership. He has focused on the search for a new senior leader as well as improving the efficiencies of the organization. Additionally, he is working with a cross-cultural team that is searching for a business startup strategy.

His expertise in solving technical problems is supported by a black belt in 6 Sigma as well as numerous professional certificates in areas such as production and inventory management, packaging and purchasing.

Dr. Lai received his BA and MA in Food Science from Kansas State University and his PhD in Food and Packaging Engineering from Rutgers University. Additionally, he holds an MBA from the University of Phoenix.
